Curiosities: Beverly Loraine Greene was born in the United States in 1915 and lived until 1957. She was graduated in her homeland, where she also worked during her entire life. The racial and sexual prejudice accompanied her throughout her career.
There is a remarkable episode that happened in 1945: Beverly applied to work in a housing project in Stuveysant and did not believe that she would be contracted, as the company responsible for implementing the project announced that ‘black people’ could not live in that housing. To her surprise, she was the first architect to be hired, but gave up the work in order to follow her studies in urban planning at Columbia University. During her career, she designed some buildings for the University of New York and was part of the execution and project team of great works of design, such as the UNESCO building in Paris.
